It looks like it was carved into it. I took it to a coin collector 25 or more years ago and was told it wasnt worth anything more than a penny. But, before I walked out the door he said he would give me $5 for it. HaHa. I still have it somewhere. I will have to find it and post. Looks pretty cool and the carving or stamp picture looked well done.
It looked like a regular penny except for the stamp of the head next to Lincolns. I have all of my old and unusual coins put up somewhere at my mothers house. I will have to take a trip to see her and pick them up. Are they common? Worth anything? And why where they made?
They were made outside of the mint. I forget who started the process, but there were sets of all of the presidents ( Lincoln was being compared ( events wise, such as assination, etc.) with Kennedy, and was one of the most hyped.) Also a similar series with outlines of states. Some collect, but prices have been low, typically a dollar or so. Many were made and eventually passed into circulation. Jim
