These are a bit out of my normal area of collecting (like I REALLY have any) but they were in such nice condition that I couldn't resist.Krause has them both at about $20 a pop in XF and I paid a bit less so I think I made out OK.What do you think,Anyone else collect these?

The Straits Settlement cent is in a little better condition than mine, but I have an entirely different North Borneo coin in my OFEC collection.

Roy,what does OFEC stand for? I looked it up but no luck.
Also, the dealer also has a coin of the same period from Sarawak (sp?) it has a hole in the middle and a portrait of a rajah on it.Are you familiar with this? It is in about XF and he wants $20 for it.

The North Borneo 1 cent coin is one of my favourite coins. The rim protects the obverse design very well indeed and as a consequence these coins are usually found in high grades. I just completed my date set middle of last year. It took me some few years, but eventually I got hold of the last one I needed courtesy of a fellow WINS member in Aussieland.

I have acouple of the Straits Settlements coppers. Hefty pieces that they are. They give the impression `value' that is missing in today's coinages :)

    Nice additions Mikjo0!

I decided to go ahead and pick up the Sarawak coin I mentioned in my second post.It pictures Sir Charles Anthony Johnson Brooke,2nd Rajah of Sarawak.I'll bet that was one sweet job. It's good to be the Rajah.

I'd have to say that OFEC stands for One From Each Country :D

That one cent from the Straits Settlement is a might bit stronger than mine, too. Nice looking coin.

    Sarawak coins.

Mikjo0,Sarawak coins are generally very underrated.I have always found them to be as difficult to find as the coins of British North Borneo.Sarawak coins, especially those of the 3rd Rajah,Sir Charles Vyner Brooke (ruled 1917-46) are of interest to me,as the last Rajah's nephew,Anthony Brooke, who was the last Raja Muda (a Malayan title meaning 'Crown Prince') has retired to my home town of Wanganui.I don't have any Sarawak notes, but I do have a few Malaysian postal orders that are Sarawak issues in my collection.

    Aidan.
