Hello All! I came across this Feuchtwangers One Cent in a bunch of coins my dad gave me. After Googling the name it seems like this coin may be pretty desireable. Found a great website and think this may be a die # 6? I was going to list it on ebay but have no idea what to ask. I'm just not really interested in keeping it and know someone else would appreciate it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Traci
Traci, if you PM Cheetahcats I'm sure he'd be able to help you. He knows a great deal about these pieces.
It does appear to be a die #6 with reverse die "I" and is referred to as "6I". There are a dozen or so die combinations in the series. This is an R-1 and one of the most common of the feuchtwangers. Your example is a really nice one, so should still get a decent price on e-bay. As far as what to ask pricewise, I'd advise you to check a few auction sites to get prices realized for similar pieces. These come up for auction fairly often, so there should be some history on Heritage or Stack's. The Rulau designation for this token is HT-268. Good luck Traci. Bruce
Thanks Bruce! I'm guess the R in R-1 stands for rarity? Is it the lower the number the more common it is? Great idea about the auction sites too, thanks!
Sorry, yes the R stands for rarity. R-1 is the most common, and goes to R-10 which designates a single specimen known for that particular coin or token. The big auction sites are always the best place to get pricing info, especially on tokens of any kind, as there are no greysheet or price guides on this material. Bruce
Your reverse is the key. Using diagnostics, the reverse can only be a I or an H, given a 13th berry [stem] sits to the left of the bow. Next, examining the obverse, it is clear there are 4 tail feathers touching the ground. And since there exists only one die combination with a 13th berry [stem] and 4 feathers touching the ground, it can only be a 6-I. Nice specimen
Beautiful coin! I really like those & am saving up to get one. The 3 cent pieces are also very well done for a private coin of that time period.
