I really have no interest in error coins but I saw this in the 25 cent bin at the local coin shop and knew there was something weird going on with it. The best I can guess is that they printed the design for a much larger coin on the 20 pence. The reverse looks fine. I also uploaded a normal 20 pence coin that I have to compare, though the correct example is 6 years earlier so the design may have changed. Has anyone ever seen anything like this and what do you think?
Its a cartwheel. https://picasaweb.google.com/Ripley44mag/CanadaEireAndBritishEmpireCoins#5459432647499918450 https://picasaweb.google.com/Ripley44mag/CanadaEireAndBritishEmpireCoins#5459432656436278946
Yep - normal 20p 2008 onwards! The 6 individual coins together make up the Royal Shield, depicted on the £1 (see ican's photo). So its worth? 20 pence. Or about 30¢.
belive it or not i have been trying to find the 2010 50p to complete a shild set im putting to gether for my daughth and ive had no luck for a year!
Thanks for the replies. I would have never guessed it was supposed to be that way because it sure looks like an error. It is very ambitious of the mint to create a puzzle out of their series of coins.
This. Is. Cool. Remind me why the US can't come up with something like this? Sure beats the state quarters.
it has caused an upsurge in the coin collecting circles in the UK, joe public has really taken this set to their hearts. BTW whats wrong with the state quarters? i quite like them.
