Lol, just saw this. A man tried to pay with a gold coin at taco bell. http://consumerist.com/2011/03/man-tries-to-buy-99-taco-bell-taco-with-1428-gold-coin-fails.html
Just goes to show, ignorance doesn't pay There was a guy on youtube running around town telling people if they were within a certain percentage of guessing the value of a 1oz gold coin that he had, they could have it. People had no clue, some didn't even want to guess because they thought it was running some sort of scam. He even tried buying a cup of coffee from a street vendor who refused to accept it for payment. -LTB
More likely; Cashier saw camera, figured something was up, didn't wanna lose his job, so played it safe and told the guy to keep the coin.
Most people have never seen a gold eagle and would most likely think he was pulling a fast one. I'm not sure what he is trying to prove.
Sure, I'd take it, buy it out of the till with my own $50, and not think twice. Because I never show up at my fast-food drive-through job without at least $50 cash in my pocket, a scale accurate to a tenth of a gram or better, a micrometer, and a set of reference books for identifying counterfeits.
He almost didn't let her accept it. He pulled those dollar bills out really quick. Also, he should've said here's a $50 coin instead of a 1 ounce gold coin. He set it up for rejection.
If am a cashier I will look on his Two EYES and ask him directly are you really serious to spend this $ 50.00 ( fifty bucks ) if he say YES, Here is your change $ 48.95. the taco is .99c plus Tx.06c. I don't know what will be his REACTION for losing over $1300.00++:smile:thumb:-
This guy has a series of videos where he tried to pay for various things with the gold coin. Also once tried to sell it to people on the street for face value. He had no takers.
