I have these three as part of my U.S. type set but don't really collect the series.I can't recall any discussion of them since I've been a member either.Anyone here have some or even a complete or almost complete set?
My opinion is that they are kind of ugly and people ignore them because of looks. Is this the "ugly bridesmaid" of U.S. coinage?

I think it has more to do with the small size than anything else. Many collectors prefer large coins - it's just that simple.

The silver 3 cents also have that problem because if its size and it was so thin it wore very fast.

I have several of the nickel "trimes", and two of the silver. I find them interesting, and would like to get at least one of each silver variety, in a VF or better grade.

I'm hoping to add a Proof 3 cent nickel piece sometime to my collection.
In the past year or so I've gone from buying more to less.....its more $$$ and less coins but I think in the end I will have built a better collection--but then live and learn...more than likely I'm passing up good deals ;) :D

Oh well...at least I'm not buying of the world type coins that GDJMSP keeps talking about :D :D

May not be popular because they don't fit well into a Pop Machine.
Also, can't use them in gum ball machines.
Notice there are no slots for them in most vending machines.

I think you've got it right Carl, and furthermore, there was no electricity so nowhere to plug in those vending machines. No wonder this denomination wet the way of the dodo bird..Bummer:mad:

I have a dozen of these, all graded by the sellers in the '70s as VF-XF. One of the holders says "Steve Ivy Rare Coin Co. The originator of the guaranteed grading system." I wonder... But that is the nicest coin of the lot.
