trade dollar

    moneyer12 i just love UK coins.......

    hello i picked up an 1872 silver trade dollar with an S mintmark in XF condition, i paid £10 for it..............how much are they worth? it is listed in krause as a pattern for that year

    It's 100% fake.

    Trade dollars were first minted in 1873.

    And you paid $16.06 for a coin with .7874 oz of pure silver in it?

    Silver price right now, $34.69/oz.

    moneyer, you should buy a Red Book before you buy a coin. You could have easily looked up Trade Dollars and found that Trade Dollars were not minted until 1873 and saved yourself a lot of aggravation.

    Education is key. Knowledge is power.

    i will have to get one from the US as they don't stock it in english bookshops.........i still have a lot to learn about US coins, just goes to show that even after 50 years collecting you can still buy a turkey......................

    You might check amazon.com as I believe they carry the numismatic books on U.S. coins there, including Yeoman's Redbook.
