I have never heard of that "error", and for $45,500 I would imagine IF it were real it would be well known, or atleast known in general...

    I guess my 1988 D reverse 89 must be worth $100,000 ?

Only thing I could find for 'long tail penny' was this image of a 1943 'long tail' on the 3

    http://www.usgoldcoins.com/information/error_coins/1943_copper_cent.html

As this coin is copper, it will not stick to a magnet.
    1943 - about 40 thought to exist
    1943 S - about 6 known to exist
    1943 D - about 24 known to exist

EDIT - found a.... some crazy prices

    1943 plain - $35,000 to $137,000 depending on condition
    1943 S - $125,000 to $275,000
    1943 D - up to $1.75 million at auction

I wish. Haha I meant the way the 3 on the date looks. I do have a steel though, as most collectors do.

My mom gave me about 800 or so random wheats that she had accumulated when she was a teenager, (she wasn't alive when those were minted, she worked at a theme park and got them all in change over the years), and the first thing I did was look for the 1943 copper. Even though she knew there wasn't one in there, because she was familiar with the coin, I just hoped she was wrong. And alas, all I got was a tarnished steel.

It looks kinda cool, but not worth 20 grand (maybe about 20 bucks), at least to me

That appearxs to me to be a bubble in the lamination caused when gases move below the lamination as the coin is stamped. I do not believe it is a die chip nor a mis made die. I would probably toss it gack in the dump box. To buy..........25c maybe IMHo

Here is an impromptu poll for this thread. Please vote for one only:

    1) The OP is full of it and this is just spam.

    2) The OP would be an idiot to spend $20,000 for this coin.

    3) The OP doesn't have $20,000.

    4) The OP should take a hike.

    5) All of the above.
