This bronze 1930 Icelandic Medal that commerate's the 1000 years since the birth of the Althingi in 930. This medal was issued in silver as well,
but I have only seen one of them about three years ago on ebay that sold for a very large amount of money ,,,More then I had at the time to
spare,,,very disappointing. I have only seen one bronze medal like the one I have here,,Well what I should say is that I have the only one I have
ever seen. I don't know the mintage and the only lettering I see is the word Bronze along the side of the rim,,,,Does anyone have any books on
medals that this one maybe be listed in. I would greatly appreciate any help.

This is a medal made in the French Mint or Monnaie de Paris, It was designed by a Icelandic artist called Asmundur Sveinsson and refered to as Asmundarskjoldur or shield of Asmundur. The French mint actually made these again in the late 60´s and it´s thought that the silver one was never made origianly in 1930. The hard thing about the bronze one is that the 60´s version has the same mark and is in no way different from the orignal. This is off course something that the Paris mint is famous for. Using original dies to make later copys. I only know of one that can see the differnce betwene the original and the later specimens.

Thank You Siggi for the helpful info on the medal. I guess I'm going to make time to see the Sveinsson museum as well,,,
I wonder if I'm related to Sveinsson since I have Langa Amma ( Great Grandmother ) That is a Daugther of Svein ( Sveinsdottir )
from Reyjavik. Won't that be cool,,,I'm going to ask a few relatives in Iceland.

    And Thanks petro89 and BRandM.
