I just located this: http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/nach-paris-1914-world-war-british-80534164 and this: 914c Silver color World War I propaganda medal. Obverse: Naked figure of death on a horse, riding over crops, and the words "NACH PARIS" and the date "1914". Reverse: In a border around the perimeter, the legend "GOETHE -THE PRUSSIAN IS CRUEL BY BIRTH. CIVILIZATION WILL MAKE HIM FEROCIOUS". In the center the words "LOUVAIN THE LUSITANIA EDITH CAVELL EARL KITCHNER THE ZEPPELIN VICTIMS". Circular: 1" (35mm) in diameter. This is one of the many propaganda medals struck early in World War I, emphasizing German atrocities, to build up war sentiment, chiefly in neutral countries.
Thanks for the info. Yep, every war villianizes its enemy. Most of this type of propaganda made "THE HUN" out to be subhuman.
This sinking of the Lusitania was May 7, 1915 and the Zeppelin bombings petered out as the war dragged on, so the medal fits in with the early war period, but clearly was not issued in 1914.
Yeah, but this one is ugly on purpose. By the way, there are actually two coins and a note that honor "the guy" also known as Urho Kekkonen. Links only as they are a little off-topic ... http://www.suomenrahapaja.fi/eng/co...-coins/president-u.-k.-kekkonen-75th-birthday http://www.suomenrahapaja.fi/eng/co...oins/25-years-of-presidency-of-u.-k.-kekkonen http://www.notafilia.com/colecciones/images/billetes/finland/fin110_f.jpg Christian
Mine? That is an Italian €1 coin (larger image: http://ec.europa.eu/economy_finance/images/image8471.gif) featuring Leonardo da Vinci's "Vitruvian Man". Christian
