I'm putting together a set of Mexican Un Pesos, one from each year 1910 - Current. I know that there were years that they did not mint any Un peso coins but I can't find a definitive list of what years were skipped. Is is safe to assume if there is none listed for that year in my Krause Book they didn't mint them or is there another reference I can check. Google isn't all that helpful in my search. Thanks, N.E.V.
Mexico pesos were minted as early as 1869 in silver (KM#408.5, for example) and at least as early as 1870 in gold (KM#410.5). The silver coins were the same size and quite similar in appearance as the 8 reales coins minted prior to that year. In 1910, the appearance of the un peso was changed, but the size remained the same until the un peso was again changed, this time in both size and appearance, as well as reducing the silver content from .9 to .8, in 1918. Question for you: Does the list that you have include pesos for the years 1915, 16, and 17 ? I cannot find those dates. Thanks.
I would be confortable in assuming if its not listed in Krause, they did not amke any for those years. Krause has mistakes, but Mexican coinage is pretty well known for Federal issues.
That would be a nice set. The "Caballito" years are very desirable. But all the revolutionary mints also put out peso's. Hope you succeed amigo.
Yes I too think Krause would cover everything but I don't have one yet. I use a 1998 North American Coins and Prices book, there's a 2011 issue tho' and it's only around $15. I like this book b/c it covers US, Canada and Mexico so it's like a 3 fer one. Incidentally, I just noticed that this book is a Krause publication book, so that makes it even better. Anyways, it's the Caballito coin from 1910 thru 1914 and then the Zapata years (no pesos coins 1915-1917) and the pesos started up again in 1918. That's all I know about tho' sounds like a really cool type set/collection.:thumb: http://www.amazon.com/2011-North-American-Coins-Prices/dp/1440212864
I agree it would be a great collection. I have a type set book for Mexico that has most holes filled, (no cabillito). I was thinking of filling it someday. I do like Mexican coinage, especially the earlier stuff.

If there are any specific coins that you need, let me know, and I might be able to find them for you.
Thanks for all the replys so far. This is the unofficial list that I have come up with so far. If there's any mistakes please let me know. I am starting my collection at 1910 so I haven't included any before that date. I may expand it in the future to include pre-1910. Un Peso - Years NOT Minted 1915 to 1917 1928 to 1931 1936 and 1937 1939 1941 and 1942 1946 1951 through 1956 1968 and 1969 1973 1988 through 1991 Wish me luck...I am starting to realize that this may not be the easiest set to put together, Peso's with any amount of silver in them are popular with the Bullion crowd and there's not a whole lot of interest in world coins in my area. I've gotten some really good deals on eBay by buying lots and my local dealer has a few, but now I'm targeting specific years and they are getting harder to find in decent circulated condition. As soon as I have the time I'll post some of them. Thanks, N.E.V.
There are some rebel issues dated around 1915 you could consider, later on when you near completion of your list. Years ago I almost finished a set of Peso's dated from 1898 thru 1908 from all their mints and assayer combinations, not an easy task, as this was pre-internet area. Still think their older coin designs are outstanding. Have fun.
I agree, daunting task with all the Mexican mints in the 19th century. i miss the 8 realies thoug. I wish Mexico would make some commemoratives with the old Libertad Liberty Hat design again.
I have one of each and I think they are the same planchets as the "caballito" coins". I dont know this for a fact but they are so similar in size and beauty that with only 1 year Dos Pesos type I cant imagine any mexican crown collection without one.
