1942 D? Merc Dime

    I see the spot but D's have never been that small. i think its debris on the die. Post a closeup of the date if you wish, but I do not see an overdate. Where do you see traces of the one?

    On Merc dimes, the mintmark is almost always well-struck and remains on the coin for a long, long time. If you look at examples of 1916-D's, you'll see the D is clearly visible on even AG3 examples. In short, don't squint around looking for a MM on a Merc dime... flip it over, and if it's not there, it's not there.

    no and no.

    This coin has neither the mint mark nor the diagnostics of a 42/41-D
