I just wanted to share an old bank note of mine with everybody. Its a 1862(June 4th), Richmond Va $1.75 bank note. The bank of commonwealth. Its was hard to get a decent pic, the writing reads "one three quarter dollars" on the sides. Its a small note, only 2.25" x 6.25". The autographs are still bold, yet the number has faded. The back side is plain, no images or designs. Its one of my favorites I own & I just wanted to post it to see if anybody else has a similar note. If so, I would love to see some pics of them.
Does it have an issued SN? Pic's are too small to see. This is another one that I found...compare it to yours. http://www.aocurrency.com/images/images-va/va-bankof%20commonwealth-$1.75-vf.jpg
Very neat note you have there, from the era of the "Great Rebellion." Here are 2 notes from 1862 from the State of Virginia. Like yours the reverse is blank. Criswell numbers = State of Virginia #16 & #17.
Very nice. That particular note is on my "to buy" list. I want an example in my collection like yours. Are they numbered in sequence 16 & 17? Thanks
Well your note is interesting because I have never seen a fractional before that was worth more than .75. As for serial numbers on 16 & 17 The Virginia government issued these Treasury Notes in 3 traunches. So all the notes of that year 1862 will have one of 3 dates on them.
[ The $1.75 is what made me purchase it, I just thought was interesting. As far as the id number goes its faded away. Here's another note of mine I like alot. It was never issued, but in really good shape.
I've seen many, many bank issued bills but never a $1.75. Always $1, $5, $10. $1.75 is an unusual number.
here is one i have but mine is the same on the back i have been told that is very rare the date is faded but its 1863 at best its a cool date in history
