http://www.nnccoingrading.com/ I stopped by a local flea market dealer who had several coins certified by this outfit. One was a 1955 cent, graded MS66 Red Double Die. The guy wants $50 for it. Suffice it to say that I doubt whether it will cross over to one of the major TPG's. Does anyone have experience with this company?
I've had enough experience with them to know that the coin will be overgraded by one or two points, and you will have to examine it very carefully to make sure that it hasn't been cleaned. Chris
Assuming that it's the "poor mans" DDO it is not worth much regardless of who graded it. If it was in fact the real mccoy it would not matter if it was cleaned, corroded, flushed down the crapper, it would be worth $500.
Yes, the fellow is a self slabber who sells on Ebay. However, do not hate him for this. He seems very accurate with his grades and does have free acess on the internet for verifacation of all his slabs. I think this fellow is an up and comer, in my opine. We all have to start someplace.
Everything is 6 grades higher than what the actual grade would come back as from the more reputable TPGs.
I would caution you about making certain that you agree with the assigned grade . If you don't trust your own grading skills , why in the world would anyone trust another independent grader , with your money.
It's not that I don't trust my own grading ability, but that in the multitude of counsellors there is safety. If we do not have certainty about a coin or a grade, we look for opinions from others. And based on how many "lock" grade coins we get back from the TPGs in "details" holders or body bags, there are no definite grades anyway. In the case of this DD, it is the "poor man's" variety. So it won't make me "rich"...
NNC is one I would pass from unless you can grade the coin yourself very well. As for their grading standards that I've seen I do not trust them but that is just my opinion.
I agree. The grades were greatly inflated from what I saw. The flea marketeer had some other NNC coins that were so far off in grade it wasn't funny.
