I have a question on this one, there seems to be a "powder" type substance on both sides of this. When I bought it I though it was toning, when I removed it from the flip I noticed some had been scraped off. Any ideas?

    Very nice set of coins,

You got the 25 aurar 1937 near date varietie i´ll try to find you a nice far away date.

The first Icelandic coin 1922 10 Aurar

And a good looking sample of the 2 Krónur 1958 wich is actually not that common in UNC BU

The 1000 Krónur seems to be a proof version of the coin. The original plastic actually made this ghosting on the coins so i´m betting on that.

I have seen proof coins with massive haze on them. If it´s proof then it would be impaired so you could try to dip it if you know the process.

I´m so proud to see some Icelandic coins here on CT hehehe :) You made me smile ;)

Thanks Siggi, both you and iceman inspired me. I know they are going to be hard to come by here in the US but thats part of the fun!

Could you fill me in on the "dipping" process? Yes it is a proof and it's driving me crazy that it's cloudy.

Thanks Siggi, I want to make you proud!

Just so we are clear I NEVER suggest people to dip coins. But as I have dipped these my self and as yours is impaired and made out of sterling silver I feel that we would be helping the coin get some of it´s sweetness back.

Now i´m going to send you a email with instructions. Just PM yours if I dont allready have it and i´ll go over the basics.

Great start Merlin :) I really enjoy seeing these Iceland coins too. I've never been to Iceland so have never seen any of the coins or paper money until recently, and then only online. My Dads side originates from Northern Iceland, Akureyri, so yes, very nice for me to see these coins.

Nope. Not a one. I'm pretty sure I'll get one or some down the road though. Lots of priorities to take care of first though.

I understand completely, I will tell you they are pretty hard to find. What I bought today was very inexpensive but I had to look hard to find them.

    I'm glad you found them.

I was raised by my Mom and my Dad passed away when I was still a teenager and I haven't had much involvement with that side of my family as we moved to the West Coast when I was about 11 so can't just pick up the phone to ask them to please bring some coins back from Iceland for me :D I'm sure I can network to find Icelandic coins when I can buy some though. Even from online. These coin forums are great networking for finding coins.

I like and am very okay with finding whatever is common circulating coins for a start.

In time I'll start going after other coin and denominations too. Be nice to have collections to leave for my family when that inevitable day comes :)

That is something else I need to find, ANY coins with puffins. I looked for Lundy today but no luck. Do you have any?

Oh My! What a sad story. I'm so sorry to hear that, it must have been a very hard time in your life.

If your out and about and there are coins shops around you just drop it! I'm starting the same way, I'm not real concerned about circ or uncirc as of yet. I just want to get my feet wet. I'll worry about higher grades later or if I happen to come across one at a show or a shop. I'm not holding my breath though, like I said they are pretty had to come by locally.
