Found this in one of my old bags of coins I tossed in my draw. It's a 1981 Lincoln memorial penny. I'm fairly sure this is some sort of error...just not sure what kind. Still new to this so sorry if this is not a error lol. The lines are vertical, and if holding the coin straight in front of you they are not as visible as when holding the coin at an angle. At which point the lines really stick out. Thanks for any help guys! sorry about crappy pics.
I have a couple of these too. I have about 4-5 of them. I was thinking it is the metal composition when the roll is flattened out or something like that. They are kinda pretty in a way.
Looks like a "woody". This is caused by an improper mix of alloys in the planchet, and produces a woodgrain affect. Some are quite spectacular.
I have one of those and the darkest parts of the stripes run through the memorial on the reverse. Very cool
