Just got back from the coin show at the NC State Fairgrounds. Went with a few rolls of 90% and 40% to sell -- 90%'s going for 26x face on eBay, but after fees you get about 23x, plus the hassle and risk. I figured if anybody was offering 23x or better, I'd sell. First thing I saw in the door was a big poster offering 24.5x for 90%, 9.6x for 40%. I almost jumped right there, but decided to ask around. Some sellers were cagey -- "What do you have to sell? Do you want cash, check, or store credit? Let me get out my calculator and tap for a few minutes instead of just telling you what we pay..." But I found a friendly dealer who offered 25x for 90%, and sold my stuff there. I ended up going to the poster guys to sell the 40%, but WOW were they grouchy. Excuse me for accepting your posted price. Found another dealer selling bags of 90% ($10 face). "How much per bag?" Tap, tap, tappity-tap -- $250. O-kay, then. Buy a quick bag of worn quarters, pick out the Barbers, the 26-D SLQ, the dateless Type I (never hurts to check, but I'm pretty sure it's 1917), and a few others, then take the rest back to the first place. ...where the person in front of me asks "what are you giving for 90%?", and the OTHER guy behind the counter says, "26x face". So I sell them $7 face of slick quarters, which I just bought for $175, and get $182. I thought about going back and buying more bags to resell, but it just didn't feel right. I'm trying to decide whether to go back this afternoon with more to sell/swap, or whether to wait until tomorrow morning...
