Help! What next?

I'm starting to think about my next coin, and I'm overwhelmed by my choices, so I'm asking for some ideas.

I have about 1K to spend, and can go somewhat higher for a better coin if needed. I've always wanted a nice looking (AU+) Trade Dollar, 3 dollar gold (would have to pay somewhat more, but willing), or Swiss Gold (20 Franc, love the look, love the coins! But are they overpriced due to the high price of gold?).

I can also continue to work on my Peace dollar set. I've come to somewhat of a crossroads with it, as I have most of the easy coins, and I have become more discriminating as time goes on, rejecting coins I may have bought before. I'm currently at 159 on NGC for peace dollars (and will never be #1, or probably even top 50).

I'm not in this to make money (It is all zero sum anyway), so buying a 16D Merc (or the sort of key coin) does not appeal to me.

    Your thoughts are appreciated.

I guess I would ask what do you want? Do you want to work on a US type set, broaden your horizons, buy something with a lot of history, something that has a visitor WOW factor, something with the highest resale potential? For $1000, you could buy a really nice Byzantine gold coin, (prices not affected by gold price), and a couple really beautiful Roman silver denari. Have you thought of classic US commemoratives? Oregon Trail coins are gorgeous, and many intersting designs to collect, and about the same time period of your Peace dollars.

I would say $1000 would probably buy entire minor Mexican 20th century type set, which has a lot of silver, (well maybe not all of them at current PM prices). How about US large cents? You could buy a couple of nice earlier ones to get you started.

The world is your oyster man, those are just a few different directions.

Whatever you want. All though if I were you, I would work on the Peace dollar set. But I'm a key/rare date person so if I had that kind of money, I'd probably buy a 16-D Merc or an 09-S VDB or a Matte Proof cent or something. But I do like the Pre 1933 Gold coins

Like was said, get what you want. If you're asking what I'd get if it was my money, well, I'd be in the same boat. I might get a few nice large cents. Or a few nice older pieces of paper. Maybe put it towards that St Gaudens double eagle I've always wanted. The best way to do this is take the cash and go to your favorite coin shop and see what speaks to you.

St. Gaudens is probably what I would get, had I not inherited one (about 15 years ago). It is in an old/original? ANACS holder.

Part of the "problem" is that too many things "speak" to me, and I'm a little overwhelmed.

Since you are started on Peace Dollars already, I would suggest maybe a higher grade 1921 high relief, if you do not have one already. It is a beautiful coin in better grades. It's just too bad it wasn't made for the entire series.

Funny...my first thought was a 16d Merc. Looking at your registry set you don't have a 1928 Peace dollar. That's what I'd buy.
