Hello everyone! I'm Carlos from El Salvador. I've been reading your boards for a while now and I think I'm ready to post and not sound like spaz. My wife's grandmother passed away and in her belongings we found a few US coins and I'd like to get some feedback from the trained eye. We found: -1922-S Peace Dollar -1776-1976-D Type 2 Ike Dollar -Kennedy Half Dollar 1964 1966 (2) 1967 Thank you beforehand for your help. I'll be posting pics shortly
What kind of feedback are you looking for? Those coins look really rough. The Peace Dollar, and 1964 Kennedy have silver value however.
Kennedy Half Dollar (1964- 1966 (2, one on top of the other) 1967) 1964 1967 The 1967 (right) has a beautiful grade. To be honest I wouldn't know exactly which, since it's hard for me with two weeks of reaserch I've been reading on these coins and It's fascinating the amount of history around them. My wife and I will be very thankful for your input and feedback. Once again THanks for you time!
In those conditions I would imagine those two are only worth silver melt value, however, I am not a silver hoarder, so I don't know that current value. The rest look well circulated as well, which will limit their value significantly, most likely to only a little over face value.
Everything that you posted has some silver in it with the exception of the Ike Dollar. If you live in the US, these coins are common and not worth any premium beyond face or the silver content. If you are outside of the US, then they may be some of very few that come your way. Value in these types of coins is largely dependent upon the person who owns them. Hope that helps
Welcome to the neighborhood, Carlos! None of the coins, including the Peace dollar, have a numismatic value that would be more than their silver melt value. The current spot price of silver is $35.97 per ounce, and these would be worth: Peace dollar (90% silver): .77344 oz x $35.97 = $27.82 1964 Kennedy (90% silver): .36169 oz x $35.97 = $13.01 1966 & 1967 Kennedy's (40% silver): .1479 x $35.97 x 3 = $15.96 Total: $56.79 If you wanted to sell them, a dealer or collector who buys "junk silver" would probably only pay 75%-90% of the melt value or $42 - $54. As previously stated, the Ike dollar has no silver content and is probably only worth face value. Chris
Thanks guys...I'm keeping them for my kids. I also found a 1944 El Salvador $25 cent. http://worldcoingallery.com/countries/img13/61-136.jpg
Thanks so much for the welcome. Turns out Grandma's little collection will be for my kids. There are some interesting El Salvador coins too! As you know El Salvador adopted USD as its currency 10 years ago and finding all these Colones coins is nostalgic. Thank you so much for you detailed reply
