Lookin to sell this coin but noticed on other 1846 large cents they have a differnet style 6 in the date. Using my Loupe I noticed it may be an over date, but I have no books on Large Cent over date Varieties. Any help appreciated !
Any coin could be fake but those numbers are deffently something that raises concerns, the 4 and 6 look funny too, post close ups of each one
Here is the Obverse before I put it in 2x2 flip gonna go try and get better close ups now. Over date shows under the 1 and 8 in the Date. I'm hoping to get 6-10 bucks out of her but if she is fake I wont know what to do.
If you sell it on ebay most likley you will get that or more, because people like me who arent good at telling fakes would buy it, ill know to look out for this coin! Have you weighed the coin?
try comparing you coin with this one and see if you notice and differences http://www.coinfacts.com/large_cent...846_large_cents/1846_large_cent_varieties.htm
It is the small date variety and just a repunched date. At first glance it maybe an N-1 small - did not look much farther. Nothing special as far as I can see. Here is a slightly higher grade example - http://cgi.ebay.com/1846-N-1-R1-PCGS-MS64-NAFTZGER-HOLMES-ONCE-CALLED-PR-/300531382786. Notice the recutting under the 18.
Seems like a match mines only slightly lower in grade though . I'm glad I found cointalk.com Thank you for help Everyone!!!!!
