Agreed but I am glad you posted that one because it is quite hard. I figured luster was really important with grading. How about AU-55? *Fingers Crossed* If I am wrong that was my third guess so please for the love of god tell me as I am curious now
While this is true, I am trying to do this for myself. So no other posters would be trying to grade they would just be posting pictures for me to grade
It's actually a lot easier to learn how to, and to actually, grade coins that are in hand with the use of a 10x + loupe as you can much more in hand than from a photo, especially if the photos are not good quality pics.
MS64 no FBL designation. Very, very subdued luster, bit it still cartwheels... albeit poorly. Interesting coin, I got it for 25 bucks, so it was a "deal" by ebay standards. You still have one more guess on the Morgan.
Wow Merc I would have never known at least from the photo. Being able to see the cartwheel does in fact really help. I hope I am right with the morgan!
It's a 63. The S-mint Morgans from '79-'82 (IIRC) are really common in higher grades and are graded much harsher by the TPG's. Won it for $48 on Ebay. You CAN get nice stuff off ebay.
Some of the cleanest fields I've seen on a 63 in a new blue PCGS holder. By the way, I should add the Franklin is in a PCGS OGH.
This is a bit of a tougher Morgan to grade... Photo kinda sucks, but that's part of grading with pics, eh?
I agree. When I first looked at those pics I thought you might have set the light in just the right position to make it look more than it is, then I opened them and enlarged them and saw the clean fields, not a lot of chatter on the relief. Nice buy.
Thank you, sir. For the record, the seller just scanned it and it came out like crap. 7 day return policy, so I rolled the dice.
The Franklin, while lacking major luster, is technically a very clean coin, and with good luster, would probably hit MS66. It's knocked back a bit, imho, by the luster. TPG = Third party grader. OGH = Old Green Holder... PCGS slabs with green inserts... they traditionally were a bit tougher on coins back then, but you can still find overgraded coins in those slabs.
