Nice coin indeed - not so much because of its "proletarian" theme and motto (workers/proletarians of all countries unite) but because of the side in the upper image. Apart from the year at the bottom, there is only the scene with the metal worker/smith and lots of empty space which makes that scene even more impressive ...

You're right...the side on the top picture is the one I really like, although the other side is pretty cool in its own way. When I bought it I was deciding between this one and another that the dealer had that was a woodie tone. Somehow I like the darkness of this one...its actually fairly close to the picture but the outer edge is more of a blue than it appears and the middle is an orange/gray mix. really cool :)

I like the coins guys, although I don't have any Russian pieces. I do have a couple of pieces of Russian currency from the 1930's though.

    Its my favorite "Soviet" too

I agree the coin is so manly, and the message is clear. wonderful coin I have all years of that type.;) Having trouble finding my 1927 at the moment. IMG_9791.jpg IMG_9793.jpg IMG_9795.jpg !BWRDsoQCGk~$(KGrHgoH-DwEjlLlzbOWBKWmj44fiw~~_12.jpg

Speaking of this design... I won this auction today, for 12 Soviet 50 Kopek coins:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150573464077

I don't want to get excited too soon but you can't beat getting those for about 60% BELOW melt value :hail: Even if the seller screws me and doesn't ship or something, Paypal protection will give me my $$$ right back.

Super good deal. At 90% seller ratings its a bit of a gamble. But, the seller only has 9 sales, so one probally went bad.

It's definitely a gamble, but one I figured worth taking. If Buyer Protection didn't exist, I wouldn't have touched this auction. We'll see what happens...

Nice coins guys. I too enjoy Soviet-era coinage.

Here's one of mine that hasn't been posted that includes a famous image/statue:
