The first one is pretty nice score , I was asking about a person on this the other day !! It appears this note has autographs of USO Performers 1. Al Robinson and "Alkali Ike" ( Ventriliquist & dummy) 2. Otis Manning ( Very early Magician who evidently paved the road for others , currently a website is being built on him ) 3. Joe Louis "The Brown Bomber" ( After comparing to a fellow collectors note with sig , I believe we have a KO !!! ) Fellow collectors note !! My note !! The second one , "Will spend when we meet in Lyons GA , Ramsey & Toby..., Berlin Germany" I just wished I knew their last names !! Back of the first note ....,
You are really good at finding these notes! WTG! Very dynamic collection you have going with these. I love seeing them, and learning from them too. From the bottom margin of the last note posted: Jefferson Barracks, just south of St. Louis, Missouri along the Mississippi river. A huge national cemetery for service personnel there too. The top margin shows "Shipping Warehouse J.B. Mo." abbreviated, also probably an indicator of the same location.
Yeah Krispy , I'm pretty sure that these people on the back were stationed there in MO !! And I trully love doing reseach on these notes , even been thinking of writing an article on them once I get enough interesting ones gathered up . They are all interesting to me but the higher profile ones like this one with Joe Louis sig and the Yokota sig. would keep people interested a bit more I believe !!
You may already know about these SPMC articles, but Paper Money magazine has published several articles on Snorters that might be useful reading as you prepare your own article. One was even written by Mike Marotta [mmarotta on CT] Check the SPMC indexes for 2001 and 2002 at the link. There are several articles to pick from.
You know GrimReaper maybe Ramsey and Toby are last names. If so , it's possible you might trace those surnames to Lyons, GA c.1940's thru Ancestry.com or another internet geneaology site. I'll be happy to give it a shot if you want. I do a lot of research on my counterstamps, and have access to a lot of pay-sites like Ancestry. Over the years I've had pretty good success at finding people. It is a long shot, but who knows. Bruce
