My grandfather past away and left me with this coin. I was wondering what it was. My eyes are not very good but their cmlxxxix witch comes out to 989 witch i am guessing means 1989? Its 1/10 oz and its says its $5. It looks like this but where this one says 2008 mine says CMLXXIX (i think i have bad eyes) The ring has a 14k mark on it. 0307111457.jpg

In 1992, the Mint switched from Roman numerals to the common Arabic numerals used today. If your coin is 1989 and is authentic, it is probably worth its weight in gold, since it is worn so much. Your coin is worth around $145 in its gold content right now according to the $1444 bid on one ounce.
