There is another thread that lists the 1939-D as the best type coin for the series. Here is my 1939-D, GEM BU!

I can't let a thread like this stall...I experimented with my photo skills. Sorry for the mistakes.

    The young:

    The bold:

(The obverse is similar to the reverse posted below. I was working with different lighting and it blanched the coin, but this was the best detailed shot.)

    And the beautiful:

First time I ever posted a pic. Hope this works. Wow. Not good. Ummmm........does anyone know how I can get rid of the "attached thumbnails" words? OK. Got rid
of those words. This is a mess. Sorry.

My kind of thread, I have one certified Merc which is a common date. 1943, PCGS MS-67. I can't believe this coin isn't full bands, because it sure looks like it. I have a 1921 P&D which are raw, and they are hard to photo.

Major weakness on the left of the center band clearly holds this back from being FB.

Jello, then my 1943 Merc posted here will fit nicely in your "Gem book"! PCGS MS-67.

It's not full-bands. Just look at it. Center band, left side, it's a pile of mush.

There's a real good reason why PCGS didn't designate it as FB.

Actually bought my first coin with a slab the other day. It was a '44 Mercury at a MS64 grade. Only paid $24 for it, so I was happy. I'll get some pics of it later.

With 60yr old eye it very hard to tell.but your edit of photo I can now see why no FB was noted
