It is a set called the 6 decades and is in a usmint looking sleeve with an envelope. It has a 64 kennedy, a franklin half dollar, 59 dime, buffalo nickel walking liberty half, and something else, anyway, he only wants 40bucks for all of it. I told him to hang on to them for me and he said he would and put them in his drawer for me. What do you guys think. I know the silver alone is probably worth more than that.

The three half's are probably worth a little over $10/each at today's silver prices. The dime is worth a little over $2 and the nickel is probably worth a buck. Everything will depend on the dates but it is worth close to $40 in bullion value depending of the something else.

Yeah, I figured on the bullion value being about that. Neat set. When I pick it up this afternoon I will give you guys details and pics. Thanks!

If you can see any detail at all on the halves, they're worth more than that -- Coinflation's quote for halves at Friday's closing price is $12.90.

I got a Six Decades set on eBay a month or so ago, but it's different from what you describe. Mine had three halves, two dimes, a quarter, and a war nickel. Silver value today is right around $50, up from $40 at the time I bought it. (I paid $18.25 shipped for mine.)

Well all the coins in there look really good to me. You can read all the years clearly, and some of them were from the 40's can't recall which.

Yep, that's just like the one I got. For $40, you win. :) (And if he bought it any time prior to the last month or so, he probably wins, too!)

Ok. Here are the years. I'll get a reverse side pic soon. Wartime Nickel-1943-S. WLHD-1943, Don't see a letter. Washington quarter-1961, no letter. Franklin Half-1962, no letter, Merc Dime-1942-W? Roosevelt Dime-1955, Kennedy half 1964-no letter. Now I am new to all of this, i may not know where to find the letters. The quarter, roosevelt dime and kennedy half all appear to be in excellent shape to the naked eye. I am sure going to need to invest in a magnifying glass I can tell. All in all I am real proud of what i have.

The question is . . . Have they been polished? (The coins in MANY of sets like this one have been heavily polished.)

    So you have:

    Wartime Nickel-1943-S.
    Walking Liberty Half- 1943
    Washington quarter-1961
    Franklin Half-1962
Merc Dime-1942-? (Check on the reverse at around 7 o'clock)
    Roosevelt Dime-1955
    Kennedy half- 1964

Yeah, when I first began collecting, I bought the same set. Mine are all polished.

Mine weren't. The Washington, Roosevelt and Kennedy were uncirculated, although certainly not gem; the Franklin, Walker and Jefferson were worn, but original.

I would have to agree with jeffb. Even tho I don't have a trained eye, the washington, kennedy and roosevelt appear to be uc, not polished. the others have some wear on them and you can tell they came out of circulation.

To evaluate if the deal is even in the ballpark it is the function of ASW x bullion price = bullion value. But be careful of problem coins. When evaluating collections and estates, I simply assign a value of zero to problem coins.

I have an excel bullion table of all the silver coins I usually inventory. I have all my silver and gold coins by ASW ior AGW in my computer to be updated instantly at any change in bullion as I have the bullion and numismatic valuation drivers separated. With silver going up like it has, the price guides are essentially obsolete.

Any price guide worth its salt should show the excact bullion price the coins are based on . It really hacks me off when they don't do this.
