Hello. Just wanted to share my latest addition. A nice circulated 1923s Peace dollar. I like honest coins!

I'm right there with yah on that. That coin looks great. Not to mention I think circulated Mercury dimes are much more attractive than the completely shiney spot free ones. :thumb:

Tep, a wee bit of dirty crud gives an AU coin a nice outline.

I'm the same way. Some of my favorite coins are circulated. I love to look at them and wonder how they came to be that exact way.

I agree with all you guys, a nice clean circulated coin is really appealing. I particularly like the old designs best (seated, bust, etc.) with a nice light gray patina on the silver ones and light to chocolate brown on the coppers. I think the wear and coloring gives it a lot of character.

Another fan here. Finding nice circulated examples that have the right tone and without dings and scratches and are well struck are sometimes just as hard to find as that UNC gem.

Ahhh exactly. Beautiful coin. I love the accenting on the circulated ones. :thumb: :)

An exceptional AU-58 is usually a nicer looking coin than a bagged-up, barely made the grade MS-60.

And it costs less, sometimes a small fraction of the barely-unc coin.

I've always thought a good criterion for coin design is how attractive the piece is as it wears. I enjoy looking at Mercs, Walkers and Peace Dollars, e.g., at all stages of wear. They remain sculptural, with graceful contours, even at VG. Can't say the same about a V Nickel or Barber dime or, heaven forbid, imagining how state quarter reverses will wear.

Think of how ugly really beat-up, corroded, Chuck-E-Cheese tokens are.

That's a state quarter in VF.

I had to google Chuck-E-Cheese tokens (don't have kids).

Here's another one. I'm thinkin higher AU for this one, but still a beauty. I think the 1927 flies under the radar.
