Like I mentioned before, the vast majority of the coins, tokens, and medals I make are based entirely on my own designs. Here are a few of my favorites:
I appreciate your artistry Mr. Carr, and proof of your skills. Everything else I have seen of your productions I would consider buying. You should look at some ancient coins and maybe do some personal renditions of those, as they are still probably the best artistic designs in coinage history. We disagree on the other point, but I have agreed to not post about that anymore. If you concentrate on this other aspect of the hobby, I truly wish you the best of luck and success. Chris
Gorgeous coins there. No one is doubting your talent. I still contend it is wrong to make fantasy versions of legal tender, current or historical (without proper legal markings) On one hand, I wish you all the best in your other endevors, but I sincerly hope you get shut down on the fantasy legal tender. Sorry, but the hobby has too many fakes threatening to bring it down, and to say that your's are okay because you do a better fake is silly.
I just love the UNA variations. PS DC, those extra wires in the cannon plugs of the Denver press were put in at manufacture. This is so if a pin/wire burned out, it could easily be re-routed. Fun with wires !!!!
All we can do is post our opinion. At first I was bashing as well but I changed my mind. There's not a dang thing we can do about counterfeiters and the the fact that someone modifies silver coins and makes them nicer and makes money doing it seems to go against the law. If that's the case tho' then why hasn't he been approached by law enforcement? As far as I know the guy hasn't even gotten a warning letter from anyone. Maybe it's not illegal! My point is if you bash someone and they come to you and they defend themselves in an honest manner then maybe you're wrong. Think about it bashers, and then think about it some more. If you still come to the same conclusions then we disagree, no big deal. You do have a problem tho. Most coin collectors disagree with you as well. :smile
Lord what a post.......There's not a dang thing we can do about counterfeiters? So we just give up and accept them? So because something isn't against the law then it's ok? So puttying and tooling and ATing and cleaning and retoning and everything else that's shady in this hobby are perfectly acceptable to you? After all they're not illegal either. And the people that take issues with the sleaze and shennanigans in this hobby have a problem? And most coin collectors feel like you do? Can you post a link to a survey that backs up that statement? If all this is true then this hobby has really gone to hell and I really don't want nothin to do with it!
Dan , I was right in that you are damn talented , you make some truly beautiful art . I wish you would stick with those endeavors as the world needs more top artists like you . I just wish you'd stay with your original work , As I see no need for copying our coinage , we already have enough of that . I wish you the best in your art . Rusty
I don't think it was a refusal to produce 09 ASEs as it was more a lack of the planchets needed to meet the demand as set forth by federal statute.
Mr. Carr, Perhaps I am just not a true hobby purist, but I think the great work you have done on fantasy and other original coin designs is ABSOLUTELY GREAT!! I know that I am extremely pleased with my new 2009 Proof ASE with the accented DC mintmark which I recently ordered from your website, and only wish I could have known about your 1964 Peace Dollar Fantasy Coin in time to have bought one or more from you! So far I've been outbid in my ebay auction attempts to secure one, but I'm still trying. If anyone here on Coin Talk has one for sale please PM me. Keep up the great work, Dan!! My ASE collection is much more complete with the addition of your 2009 Proof Overstrike!! It is a true work of art!!
