Quick question for some one in the know. Was there a proof set in 1957, and would a jefferson nickle be proof like or is there a 1957 jefferson proof coin?

Yes there was a '57 Proof set that contained a Proof Jefferson nickel - and yes you could conceivably find a Proof like Jefferson that was struck for circulation.

Thank you for your quick response. Is there any reason that the danco albums do not include the earlier proofs as part of their books?

1950 to 1964 had regular issue and proof coins of same date.
Most albums have holes for S mint Proof Only coins.
Such as 68 to present proofs

Proof coins were issued 1936 thru 1942 - then they stopped. Then they were again issued from 1950 to date.
