I found my old penny books and started looking at the coins closer when i noticed strong doubling on the date, stamp, liberty and in god we trust! Im kinda new at looking for this stuff so i wanted to know other peoples opinions! I took the best pictures i could but i think it gives you a clear enough look to tell what it is! Is this just an MD or is this the real deal? I appreciate all advice!
No, doubling on the mintmark would preclude it from being a DDO. (The mintmark was punched into the die by hand after the die was completed.) edit - - - - - - - - What I wrote is not entirely true. It is possible for a coin struck by a doubled die to also have machine doubling.
does that make it a even more rare die variety if so? figuring its possible does this penny look like it has attributes of the doubled die?
Your coin appears to have strike doubling, which does not add any value. It certainly does not resemble the valuable doubled die obverse variety, which is shown below. Keep in mind that this doubling is in the coin die itself. This means that the doubling of the letters and numbers must be *exactly* the same as on the pictured piece.
dosent strike doubling only usualy occur in one general area? This has doubling on the entire obverse just like the sample picture! the doubling just isnt as extreme!
