I recently inherited some currency from my grandfather and he framed them for display. After I received them I went to take them out of the display and found someone taped the bills to the glass to keep them in place. I was wondering if any one has any ideas on how to remove the tape. These are older bills, silver and gold 10 and 5's and also a 10 bill from 1882. Thanks so much in advance.
Probably will not get the glue residue off the note. Depending on the type of tape a little steam may help. Be careful as you could also damage the notes. Condition of the notes would also play a part as to how aggressive you are with something like steam.
Whatever you decide, I recommend trying it first on a piece of wallet currency. I've heard collectors using steam, acetone, and even Goo Gone. Be carefull, and remember to try it first on ordinary currency. Welcome to CoinTalk.
I have a few that are damaged already that I was going to try it on first. The 1882 brown back I am saving for last just in case and will live with it on there if I do not feel comfortable. Thanks for the help.
