    What "reference" is that? I have a copy of his his book and is says very little about the 1939-D other than it is common in mint state due to hoarding. I think the 1939-D would be the best type coin even though I am not a type coin collector.

    For me it's a tossup between the '39-d and '44-d , leaning towards the '39-D for the toning , Toned it's an awesome looking coin . If it had to fit my budget the 44-D in 68-FB would have to be my choice anything over a grand for a 20th century type coin is too high for me .
