I know the modus operandi is to right away say everything is artifically toned. Let's actually look at these and make a decision based on these images, not on the epidemic that is AT. I want to say first: The seller of these had no other toned morgans for sale, nor did he have any in completed listings. He also has 100% feedback and doessell a lot of nice coins. These look nothing like the very popular "Rainbow Monster Toned" Morgans that are abundant on ebay, with their cartoon colors. They remind me of the toning from Morgans that were in cardboard holders, like the Tidy House Morgans. That being said, tell me what you think. I wanted a nice toner for the 7070. I ended up with these 2. I didn't pay 'much' of a premium for the toning either.
I think that if the dealer was reliable there is a good chance you have NT coins there, although the similarity between the two is somewhat troublesome. I am sure there is a way to create that pattern of toning via AT, but I dont know how and anyone who can make a coin like that can cover their tracks, so I bet it would pass muster at a grading company. I think those are great coins, and although I don't think I plan on buying any toners any time soon, those are the kind I would buy if I did. I really like the rapid succession of colors on the reverse of the first one.
If those colors are accurate, then they are AT. It looks like someone was trying to imitate the Tid-E-Bowl pattern. Chris
Don't listen to him, G! You know, you can lead a horse to water but in the end, it's still a horse. Chris
I don't want to create anymore drama, but lets get this out there. A professional AT is going to be toned like an NT would, only faster. period - nothing more. Those look pretty good, and as long as the premium isn't to wild go for it - they look real nice...
Don't really like the toning progression on these coins. Just not right. Colors are too much of a pastel also. You said seller had no other Morgans for sale. Think seller unknowingly bought these from a coin doctor in Florida. After receiving, had second thoughts about keeping them, and then resold to you. Sorry. I am just certain I know where and who these originated from. I collect toned coins of all denominations and have looked at and held 1000's. Currently putting together a toned Morgan Date Set. Lot of things I know about this hobby......lot of things I don't know either. Just giving you my honest opinion is all.
I can't say for sure one way or the other based on those images....they are overlit and the coins are angled so they could very well be tidy house Morgans or toned in some other cardboard holders like the ASE's are stored in....or they could have had help? I would not feel comfortable providing an opinion based on those images so an in hand inspecation by the buyer should go a long way in determining if the coins are AT, NT or potentially MA. Good Luck!
After some of the theads I've read the past few days I don't know what to think. They ARE very nice coins though!
Thanks for the input fellas. If they are AT, I say kudos to the Dr! I do really like the look of them either way. Like I said, I didn't pay a large premium. That being $50 each. I don't get coins slabbed, so it's all about how much I like them, ya know? These talked to me, and said "buy me you sucker". I will post my pictures of them in this thread when I receive them. Maybe that will change the minds of some of you debbie-downers.
Yes....the coins certainly have a Tidy House look but the reverse color and patterns are a little iffy based on the images. New picture might go along way in helping us decide but ultimately if the OP is happy with the coins then that's all that matters.
Shane, it's the colors that are making it suspect to me. If those are the true colors, then I can't see it as NT. I can even see a slight tinge of green in Liberty's hair. This shouldn't be. Chris
Good point Kevo! Some differences with say some premature Pro AT's that were harvested to soon could look subdued! It makes since to me? Sorry GB, I didn't want to freak you out, and I honestly can't tell you if they are NT or AT. Get them in hand, and if your happy with them - that's all that matters...
