I disagree, I don't see why you'd want these tokens. "anybody know where I can get a pair of Dr Joseph Mengele's boots?? whatssamatter..it's history"
i had no clue who mengele was i know now, it's sad that people want to cover up history... it's a very cliche quote but "those who choose to forget history are doomed to repeat it"
The bottom line is it really doesn't matter how any of us feel about those KKK tokens they go for big dollars and ppl still collect them all the time. If I had one, I wouldn't throw it away but I would sell it real quick to buy something I could use.
No matter how much you want to you cant erase history because you don't like parts of it. That is what Hitler was trying to do by burning books. I'm sure you don't agree with burning books. so why do you want to destroy other history artifacts?
Those who destroy history are condemned to repeat it. One of my collections is of banknotes issued by countries occupied by Nazi Germany. Does that make me a Nazi sympathizer? Before you answer that, maybe you should call the Holocaust museum to which I just made a donation of Nazi propaganda posters.
Those do appear to be real. I have seen some of these before. They were used at Klan events. Like retreats and things for trade. Also were given as threats. Kind of like they give out the business cards now.
Exactly. My father fought in WWII but he brought home some Nazi items including money. You wouldn't dare call him a Nazi sympathizer to his face. People have old slave auction posters, but does that mean they condone slavery? Sometimes we just need to get a grip.
Absolutely! You gotta let the future generations know what has happened in the past. I am happy that so many ppl on this forum are speaking out against hate but give it a rest. If someone else in the world wants to collect Nazi or racist stuff then there's not a dang thing you can do about it except express your views about it and get on down the ramp, period. :rollling:
The top two, I believe are fake. The middle two may be authentic and I think the bottom one is also a fake ? At one time the Klan was one of the major social organizations of the nation sporting membership of the majority of law makers including Presidents and Supreme Court Justice Hugo Black http://able2know.org/topic/99462-1 So these very much like a "Mason's" ring or other memorabilia or collectable in many respects, although I too, find the organization itself distasteful. gary
This is the token which started this whole business. I had posted it on my website along with my other tokens; the guy who sent me the pictures saw it, assumed that I knew more about these tokens, and sent me the pictures of the ones he had. Ku Klux Klan - KKK - The Invisible Empire (38mm) THE INVISIBLE EMPIRE AMERICA FIRST / KU KLUX KLAN / PRESERVE RACIAL PURITY I have had it since the 1960's. It is aluminum and the same size as the New Orleans Mardi Gras tokens that I have. One of the KKK tokens I posted on the first page is a crude copy of this one. For those who like to hobnob with Wizards, Imperial or otherwise... New Orleans Mardi Gras Land Of Oz 1966 (38mm) THE LAND OF OZ / 1966 KREWE OF ALLA / MARDI GRAS / NEW ORLEANS
Thanks, willie. It's funny that you posted the Wizard of Oz token because there is a guy at work who will not allow his children to watch that movie. He says it's because wizardry and magic go against the teachings of the Bible and doesn't want them seeing those things presented as entertainment. A bit extreme to me, but to each his own I guess.
Totally agree. It's important that we keep reminders of history like this so we can learn not to make the same mistakes ever again. I also find these items interesting for their historical significance.
I don't agree with some of the actions the US government has taken, but I still collect their coinage.
