Anyone else here trying to put this series together? I need 7 coins to complete the 1/10 oz set from inception to date! Tell me I am not the only one... All coins are PCGS MS or PRF 69 nothing less and for sure nothing more... RickieB
I almost tried that set about a year and a half ago in MS69 from any TPG. But I don't do well with sets of any type and have a strong tendency never to complete them once I start them. So it's probably good that I never started. I don't own any platinum coins, but I wish I did and someday I probably will.
Hey Cloudsweeper.. Yesterday I picked up the 2006 Uncirc and the 1997 uncirc 1/10 oz....tonight I got the 1998 proof 1/10 oz and 2003 prf 1/10 oz have an active bid out on the elusive 1990 1/2 AGE in MS 68...call me picky but these sets are for my Son when he grows up (currently 3.7 yrs old) and I have set minimum grade of PCGS (only) MS68 for Uncirc and Prf 69 for Prf's. Maybe they will be worth the down payment on a home or tuition or something that will serve him well. Thats the goal. RickieB
Smart thinking there I have decided that if someday I need to sell my collection for a house or such that I can....I don't want to if I don't need to, but I also don't want to be tied to my coins where I can't sell them---I think some people get to into their coins. And no...I'm not working on this set but keep us up on how you are doing! Speedy
Hey guy's..here are some pics of what I have in the safe except the proofs..the ones mentioned at start of the thread are on the way..notice the different strikes and it's effect on the metal...all coins here are PCGS MS69 taken with a Nikon D-100 f 5.6 1 sec with a 4T closeup lens mounted on a 105mm f 2.8 Nikor Micro Lens. RickieB
Here are the other 2 uncirc's...will post the proof when I get the latest ones coming in..your comments pro or con will be appreciated. Best regards too all. RickieB
My dad likes the platinum coins and has a few...I had never noted the stikes and how they change some... Speedy
Nice set Rickie. I have just one platinum coin...the 2001 1/10 oz. I personally don't like the new all matte design that they changed to in 2004. I don't think they look near as good as they used to, but that's just me. I do like the proofs though also.
Thanks Guy's for the comments. I am having some trouble finding the 1999 1/10 oz.. but rest assured I will get it... have a great day. RickieB
Hey Tcore.. I like the proofs as well. Cool designs on them each year..I will post pics when I get more of them together...some are still in mint capsules. RickieB
1997 Ape Hello everyone..just got this in yesterday..it is the 1997 Uncirc MS69...thoughtI would share it. RickieB
Nice collection . I too collect these .But for know It will be by the size .One in each size in unc. and proof. Too bad you werent looking for a $50 PCGS ms68. Thats the only platinum Ive seen today at two different shops Though i did notice an advertisement in coin prices today from www.southerncoin.com, located in Georgia tel# 770-393-8000 They seem to have every Eagle in unc. and proof ,but i dont know if they are slabbed. Ive never done business with them so I dont know how they are. Hope this helps (p.s) Someday will you let me know of the place where you buy your gold coins from? CLAW
Oh buy the way , does anybody know the mintages of this years Platinum proof Eagles. Last years half ounce proof was about 3000. They sold the last one when I was ready to buy. Oh well CLAW
Hey Claw... The proof version of the APE's in all denominations after 1999 has not been released yet..or at least I have not seen it published anywhere. The uncirculated are published thru 2005. The proofs are very low mintage coins all the way around. The 2004 4 coin set is big $$$$$ now with 2005 right behind it..low mintages and 2006 might just be that way as well...If you can stand the 2500.00 hit..buy the 4 coin Prf set in March..you will not be sorry! RickieB
I hope I never have to either. Three sets of mine I hope I never have to sell....they would go last if need be....one is my PF66 Franklin collection--almost done and its taken me 6+ years to do--I think I should be done by next year. Speedy
Have any of you looked at the Australian Koala bullion coin? Minted at the Perth mint and it has a frosted finish. It is .9995 pure Platinum and, I hate to say it but, it puts our Eagle coins to shame. Probably one of the best struck coins you will find any where. Here is the bonus, it sells slightly less than the Eagle for some strange reason. Probably because no one knows about it yet. Find one and take a look.
Dan, that Pt koala looks like quite a nice coin from what I can see online. I just started collecting the Australian Lunar silver series and the Kookaburras, and the details in the coins are just amazing. Somebody knows what they're doing over there!
Hi Old Dan...indeed I awlays look at major country coins...but for the bullion based coin. My attention was captured by this coin in 2002 when my son was born..seeing the mintages steadly decline over the past few years prompted me to establish the 1/10 oz set in uncirculated and proof. At this point all I need to complete it is the proofs in years 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. It is not that difficult except that all coins must be PCGS MS and Prf69...I have one NGC 2005 MS70 that I picked up for insurance. As far as the "DARKSIDE COINS" I have fallen off the boat here and there but my primary focus is the USA Silver, Gold and Platinum Eagle series from 1986-2xxx or until death do we part....sort of morbid huh? Beautiful coins from the Aussie's no doubt! RickieB
