I recently bought a group of Indian cents and found this coin. I don't know much about error coins so any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

You may want to send this one to Ken Potter or John Wexler.just goggle one or both names I sure one of them can tell you more or maybe this is a new die variety?

This looks like someone may have engraved the design on your coin or they may have taken the coin apart in the center then stamped the design and put the coin back together. This is things to look for when examining a weird looking coin. the reverse side of the coin is not damaged so this was either struck while still in the coin dies or one of the other ways I mentioned. If this is a mint error then the extra design on the coin got there from being struck thru something that had a incuse design on it. since the reverse side is not damaged this coin may possibly be a struck thru coin. If it is it would be a rare one for sure. like the other poster said send Mr. Wexler a email with a photo and ask him. his email address is ; jwex@comcast.net

It used to be part of an encased cent. Part of the encasement design got struck onto the edge of the cent. One of the encasement dies was probably misaligned.

Condor I believe you are right and I would easily have recognised it but I missed seeing the damage on the right of the reverse of the coin. I can clearly see now what looks like a pushed in area near the edge on the right side of the reverse. when a coin is done like this rhere will always be some damage visible on the other side of the coin from the pressure applied to add the extra design. I guess I'm just getting too old and not seeing good enough for this error collecting.

Thanks for the info. I can see what you are talking about the encasement design must have gotten pressed into the edge of the coin. It is an interesting coin anyway. Thanks again!
