I mean let's face it, there are a lot of scammers on ebay, and the majority of them make good money by (self) Certifying their coins!. Not that I would ever do it but It would be quite easy to Create a Certification company if you had enough time and money Here are the tools you need: An Acrylic Case to enclose the coin in: Obviously you don't want your buyer to think you switched out the certified coin, so a holographic security sticker would help A 100% cotton piece of "Custom" watermaked paper (showing your companies logo) to verify the coin is authentic Someone to buy it! What do you think we should name it, hmm something unique, something powerful, Ah The Liberty Coin Grading Service! Sit back and watch the money roll in
It probably wouldn't be hard just expensive. You would need a business license and some good insurance!
How about one for all the people who bid on potato chips that look like Jesus? Christian Coin Grading Service: CCGS, almost sounds like an authentic company!
Don't over think this. Just get the slabs, make up some labels and sell as is. No need to take the responsibilty for making a company ..your story is to got them at a big coin show dealer who was going out of business and selling them for 25% off book value. You are just passing along a slabbed coin without any of the liability of validating the grade.
Indeed. Hello photoshop!!! Nah I know what you mean I am just saying those Fake coing grading services SCS, NCS, GSN Blah blah blah, they act like they actually do something but I could make a more reaslistic company. In Arizona I can get a buisness licence for $45 and a tax permit for $500. So for $545 + Supplies + $4.99 for a 1&1 website I've got a coin grading service LMAO
Hahaha 100+ Million customer basis instantly, granted I am not one for exploiting religion for personal gain Omitted material not related to Coin Talk and offensive to others Sorry for the rant
Slabs I bought one of those nice 30-slab PCGS boxes a while back with the intention of filling it with some fine PCGS slabbed coins from the bay. Once you get going on a project like that, you realize how expensive and long-term it can get. I bought 2 10-packs of those Coin World "Premiere" cases you mentioned in your original post (one set with green inserts for the more flashy silvers and a set with the white inserts for toners). I have to say, those really aren't appropriate for starting a grading service with. They're not flimsy, but the 2 case halves don't fit together as tightly as you might hope they would. A better product would have a true edge-view insert and fit together perfectly tightly. Maybe having a trigger mechanism to unlock the halves. Hard to believe with the size of the hobby there's nobody out there making a truly nice and substantial slab for raw coins. Anybody know of any lesser-known but higher quality slabs out there?
Stop the religious angle of the thread discussion. It is not appropriate nor necessary to the thread. Thanks Jim
So your crooked dealer has inspired you to start you own grading service huh! If you plan on being an actual grading company, you will need a niche. Without a niche, you will be competing against PCGS and NGC which is impossible. Just ask DGS and they had the advantage of having all of the PCI slab stock. So the way I see it is you will either be a self slabber or need a niche market that will drive customers your way. You have stated you don't want to be a self slabber, so what is your niche? And in order for you to have a niche market, you will need to have a reputation of expertise in that particular niche. To my knowledge, you have no such expertise in any area. I am not trying to be mean, just trying to interject a little reality in to your fantasy. To clarify what I mean my niche, let me give you some examples. The VAM guys could easily create a grading service that attributes Morgan and Peace Dollar varieties. Rick Snow could easily create a grading company for IHC's and FEC's and be successful. Again, what is your niche?
yes a reputation for real collectors, but for those who use ebay flashy pictures and signatures are good enough
Jim I personally ment no offence, however I did edit and omit my original response to maintain a politically correct basis
A reputation built upon a foundation of Honesty , Integrity and Expertise is not something to be taken lightly . Furthermore , You cannot be selective in establishing such a reputation. You either have it , or you don't . Sounds as if you may need to stay away from that Coin Shop . If you read the other replies by some of our other members here , sound like we are coming to the same conclusion regarding your proposed business venture.
Ah, Coinman you do realize this is not meant to be a littoral posting? Just saying after doing my home work it's quite hilarious how many of these grading services exist.
Man you butchered that word! Looks like you have more homework to do, the best time might be between low and high tide.
Not too expensive, can be done for under $100. And if you are a self slabber you can probably get by without the business license or insurance. It should, there have been four different companies that have used those initials so far. It exists, it's called VAMslab. It's called Photoseal.
Wait, I thought photoseal was a sticker of approval like the CAC sticker. Does he really have his own slabs? Can you post a photo of the VAM slab and Photoseal slab Conder?
