Here is my latest addition to the set. A decent 1931-D Liberty/Mercury Dime. The 1931-D is an truly unsung semi-key date of the set with a mintage of 1,260,000 a full 260,000 less than the 1926-S and ONLY 30,000 more than the KEY 1921. Just some food for thought..

Nice coin for your collection. You can also find this coin in Vf-Ef and not break the bank.

    Bone,
I thought maybe mine was better but after pulling it out and taking these pics,it looks about the same except yours has a hint of bands while mine is bandless..sigh..the obverses are approximately the same though although yours has a bit more detail in some places, mine in others..Now I'll have to upgrade...

Your in the same boat as I am, top of the list for me to. I just bought 17 of them, they have'nt arrived yet. Heres one that I have up for sale, I really am sorry that it's up for sale now, but I picked it up on the cheap.

Your right about that coin not being popular. Glad you mentioned it though. I'm just getting dressed to go to a coin show today and will look for them. I have 8 sets of Merc Dimes and just noticed that most of my 31D's could use an upgrade. Hope I can find some for a decent price.

As I said I went to a coin show in the area here. We have a coin show at this place called Countryside, Illinois evey second Sunday of the Month. The one today wasn't a little disapointing at first. Only about half the normal amount of dealers at 9AM when I arrived which was still at leasr 50 or more. However, as the morning progressed, more dealers must have finished their breakfast and came there. Almost full by the time I left at about 11AM. Now as to the 31D Mercury Dime. As I previously noted, none of mine appeared to be in what I normally would like in my sets so I went there with the intent of being able to say on this forum that they are common in all grades. HOWEVER, much to my surprise I could hardly find any at all in any grade.
One dealer that knows me well said he had put aside a bunch of Mercury Dimes for me to look at before the crowd got bigger and they would vanish. He was right he did have quite a few for me. I ended up buying 16S, 18S, 20D, 26S, 27S, 28D, 31S and a few in the late 30's but no 31D most in AU or better. The cost was close to $1,000. I think I'm making up for when I was a kid and a ten dollar bill was something people talked about but seldom seen.
Again, the only 31D's I did see were in less than what I would consider a G4 or less. Now I've got something to drive me nuts over. I never realized how rare that coin may be becoming. Well we have another coin show coming up next weekend in a town called Itasca so maybe there.
Oh to be a kid again back in the good old days only this time to have the money to buy up all the coins I want today.
