Hi everyone. I have recently got back into coin collecting. I loved collecting when I was younger, but I have not had the time in about the last 15 to 20 years. Recently, I have gotten back interested. I stumbled upon some customer rolled halves about a week ago and found a lot of silver coins, including kenneys, franklins, walkers, and 1 barber. I know this was totally luck. But my question is, what is the best coins to search? I am not out trying to hit silver. I am a history buff and just curious on what rolls do I have a better chance in finding some nice older coins? Any help by you seasoned veterans would be greatly appreciated. All opinions are welcomed. Please don't bash me if this is a stupid question or has already been answered a thousand times (which I am sure it has). Thanks in advance everyone.
I would say pennies and nickels for the oldest coins (on the average). I did find a badly worn 1917 Walker last summer roll searching.
Thanks for the info Fifty. Also, I wondering what rolls if any do you guys find odd coins in? Like different denominations in rolls of certain coins.
Nickels are by far my favorite coin to search. I love finding either a buffalo, a war nickel, or any early Jefferson.
I'll give another vote for Nickels. When I first started roll searching a lot of people suggested nickels but I just didn't get the appeal.....after 94 boxes I get it. Tons of stuff to find. War nickels (80), buffaloes (24), proofs (6), v nickels (2), foreign coins (~30), Canadian (~50), nickels from 30's, 40's very common, and many key dates. I've been trying to fill a book entirely from circ. Even found a 1950D. Only need to a 38D & 39D to complete all the Jeffersons from circulation. Nice going on the Halves btw. That's a nice mix. I managed to get a full roll of 90% silver in customer wrapped rolls earlier today from a Wells Fargo. 7 Franklins and the rest 64's. Had been a while for that many in one go.
Thanks for all the replies. You guys are very helpful. I like nickels also. Always have. I was curious as to what advice the vets could give me. Very good advice. And thanks Mrak. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked through the rolls of halves. I also found a 2006 s proof in the mix. And congrats on your recent find. This is a very nice and helpful forum. A lot of good info too. I will be hanging out on here often. Thanks again everyone.
