is have a special that I was consideration because most reasonable/best deal and wanted to know your thoughts. (Trying to do a raw/slabbed collection of Lincoln Cents and thought going this route may be cheaper than buying some Lincolns)

    $10 per coin, 10-coin minimum, 15-day service.*
Any combination of ten or more U.S. Dollars or Small Cents
Maximum insured value of $500 per coin
Each order of 16 coins or more receives a free ANACS holder storage box.

Verification. ANACS will verify and designate attributions supplied by you (the submitter) for an additional $5 per coin. This includes varieties, reference attribution and errors. Specific variety or die numbers must be listed by you (i.e. FS-25-1969D-501, VAM 17A, rpm double die, etc.) in the variety column of the submission form.

    So here is my thought 10 x 10 = $100
    15 day Teir = $19
Insurance + Shipping both ways: $46.00
Total: $165.00 + $50 (for Verification if you choose too) $215.00

    NGC: http://www.ngccoin.com/MemberPortal/Login.aspx

If you join you get 5 Free submissions (must be done at once) $109

Designation Review ( NGC-certified coins you’d like reviewed for a particular designation, such as “FB,” “RB” or “*.” There is no designation review service for +. Coins must be
submitted for grading. For varieties, use VarietyPlus and separate from Designation
    Review services. = $10 x 5 = $50

(Scratch-Resistant Holders are available for additional $5 per coin..World Coins are $2.50) N/A

An $8 handling fee per invoice applies to all submission in additional to the aboce grading tiers. $8 x $5 = $40.

    Shipping+Insurance both ways = $50.
    Total = $249.

    PCGS http://www.pcgs.com/howtosubmit.html
    Gold/PLatinum Service
    $129 / $199 = 4 Free / 8 Free Submission Vouchers

    Insurance/Shipping = $60

$12 per coin that makes the minimum grade assigned by you. There is a 60% minimum. If less than 60% of the coins make the grade, then you will be charged $5 each for coins that failed to meet the minimum.

    $190 or $260 + Grading fee ($48 to $96 if graded properly or $24 to $48)

    Thoughts?

It's not so much a question of money (how much it cost) as it is what you want to have in your collection. And there's really two things to consider.

1 - is your grading skill good enough that you think that you can predict what the TPG will say with any accuracy ? I mean if you send in a coin and you think it is a 65, but it turns out that the TPG thinks it's a 63 - do you want that 63 or do you prefer the 65 ? If you want the 65 then you have to do it all over again, costing you yet more money.

2 - do you want your coins slabbed by a company that the market agrees grades correctly or do you want them slabbed by a company that the market thinks does not grade correctly ?

The market thinks that NGC and PCGS grade correctly. The market that ANACS does not grade correctly.

So what is important to you ? The answer to those questions tells you what way to go.

I'll say this much. Typically the least expensive way to do this is to buy coins that are already slabbed.

What is important is getting it properly/accurately graded. So in the end it may be worth more to send them to NGC/PCGS. THat makes me think of the old saying " you get what you pay for"
I will agree with that statement and say that is true most of the time. Like anyone else, I have a couple coins that the cost of grading would be cheaper than buying slabbed.

Now you see why I just use my local dealer at $25 flat per coin. It takes months to get my coins back, but I don't have to worry about all the hassle....but I'm never in a hurry when it comes to grading.

I went with NGC and was able to use the five free submittals. Was pleased that both my 1913 TYPE 1 Buffalo nickels were graded MS64.

First off, I would satay away from ANACS today. They used to be a good company, but not today.
Second, I think your shipping are a bit high. Unless you are sending in 5 X $1000+ coins, you should be able to send them for <$20 each way.
Third, I do not understand why "$8 handling fee per invoice" is multiplied by $5.

And lastly, the coins I have had certified, I did PCGS for $20 each (<$300 value) through Jack - shipping included. I am sure you will have trouble equaling that, but you should be able to come close. The last lot I sent in was to NGS through a local dealer. They ran about $18 each again shipping included. Again, it will be rough to equal, but you should be able to come close.

If all else fails, see if you cannot find someone else to go in with you and ship at least 10 coins.

    Dick,
I try to plan ahead, in the event the insurance/shipping is equal to my price I am covered if lowered then I put some money in my pocket :)
Also the $8 per invoice...does that mean per coin or per submission?
Is Jack a member on this forum lol?

A couple of months ago, a dealer in my dealers wanted to charged me $50 when he submitted his coins to NGC.

    Thanks for your input!

Per invoice - My guess is neither. I have never send them personally, but they have several different price steps depending on value, turn around, gold, modern, etc. I assume each step is an invoice. BTW, these can or will be shipped separately.

Yes, Jack (Arizona Jack) is a member, but no longer actively collecting.
