hey guys got a Question so i have a pretty good condition 1891 Morgan silver dollar but it has no mint mark! My question is how did this happen? Does it raise or lower the price? Ive been told that a 1891 Silver dollar in this condition should be worth any where for $200-2000 depending on the person but that was before I could not find the mint mark. I checked where it should be but there nothing there, It looks like there was nothing there in the first place. Can someone please help me out.

Just looking through Redbook they list 1891, 1891CC, 1891O, and 1891S, so unfortunately you have a basic Morgan dollar. There is no significance of a no mintmark 1891. As stated in the other thread it was minted in Philadelphia. That one actually lists as the least expensive of all the Morgans for that year. It can be worth alot of money if it is in the higher Mint State grades, however.

Also no need for multiple threads on this topic. Welcome by the way!

Exactly as Evilkidsmeal said. While there are exceptions, your first belief for a coin with no mint mark should be that it was minted in Philadelphia.

There is no need to post your question in multiple threads. It makes things confusing.

Philadelphia was the first of all the mints... Therefore it didn't need to identify itself as the Philadelphia mint with a "P"... It just was THE mint. Hopefully that was helpful.
