I found a Barr star note when searching notes it is pretty well circulated (I am no grader of paper but its been around) and i was wondering if it very rare I have not been able to find production numbers on the 1963 notes. Thanks kent
Can can pick them up quite readily as individual notes, or as in a set; The guide I currently use shows them @ $20 each in UNC, and you can get them for less as a set of four.
I remember when these came out. Joseph Barr was only in office for a month and a hoarding frenzy ensued...much like ATB 5 Oz coins or 2009 nickels and dimes today; everyone had to have them. The thing nobody knew at the time was, in that one month period, 400 million Barr notes were printed.
They weren't produced in that one month period. Barr was out of office before the first notes with his signature came off the press. It takes awhile to make up new printing plates, and they don't stop using the old ones until they wear out. So once the notes went into production they stayed in production for 13 months.
A lot of the CT posting features don't seem to be working for me tonight...anyone else having a problem?Anyway, about halfway down the page of this link, there's some info about Barr notes. No doubt they were in production for more than a month, but (at the time) everyone thought they would be great rarities...and hoarded them...http://www.wikifaq.com/United_State...s_with_Barr.27s_signature_good_investments.3F
