Yeah, I know, I know. There are those out there who detest the Prez Dollars. Many more who detest the "dead people on coins" idea. Still, President's Day is tomorrow so I thought it only appropriate to start a thread for Prez Dollars and presidential facts. So, feel free to post your facts and coins below and happy President's Day everyone. Why President's Day was created: And the entire group, all together now:
There are those who don't like or collect the new presidential series of dollar coins. I'm not one of them. I enjoy collecting the series, but for those who don't, I suggest you post something more to your liking and contributory to the presidential theme of this thread. Of course, if that's OK with Dimeguy...
I don't detest the Prez dollars...I LOVE the Prez dollars!! I detest what they're made of...and that they have less PM than large cent.
I may not like the design and the cookie-cutter style with which it moves forward, but I am glad that the United States Mint is making an attemt to bring new designs to our coinage. Like them or not, the mere thought of change can bring some of the best ideas to the forefront. We may not like this program, but the next one holds promise. At least we don't have the stagnant designs of the mid 20th century!
How about a look at the three for this year that haven't been released yet? Only to be found in uncirculated sets.
Just for completeness, have a pic of an Andrew Johnson? I currently don't have him as I like to wait for the yearly hype to die down before I purchase the dollars...therefore I'm always a year behind.
And I'm sure it's fairly generic resource, but since it is President's Day the mint does offer a website where you can see the coinage legislation and mint director/initiatives under each of the presidents. Interesting enough to give a quick glance: http://www.usmint.gov/mint_programs/$1coin/index.cfm?action=Washington
I love that Grant half, Green18, I'll have to look into getting one of those. I'm collecting all the President coins. Collecting modern dollar coins is actually how I got into collecting. The Menace is right, this years releases are the better looking ones, but I get a kick out of the Van Buren coin. The Lincoln was a disappoint to me. I do wish they would remove the dollar bill, though. What's the sense of producing all these coins just to have sit around in Fed banks?
How's about a pic o' all this years Boys? From one of my proof sets that I received earlier this year..... The State quarters was what got me back into collecting....
Here's AJ. I had to reshoot him, the first time didn't come out so good. These mint sets are a pain to get a good pic.
