Anyone know how to open a account with brinks or any armored truck carrier to have coins delivered or picked up?? I do run a corporation out of my house and have a corporate bank account. If this helps. I do not know if I would have to get an actual store front and open a bank or a coin shop to have brinks to stop in and deliver. I would like to get pallets of of unsorted pennies if I can. Thanks
Humm I have no idea. But a bunch of us roll sorters should try and open an account together, that would be pretty sweet but we'd have to make sure we all got an equal share, otherwise Bobbeth and GypsyTears would be raking in all the good boxes...haha.
I don't think they charge for an account I think they have a delivery charge, atleast that is the vibe I get from my Credit Union. It may be different in different cities. I don't think Brinks stores coins or cash. They just act as agents for banks and the Fed. Everytime I have gotten bags of coins they come directly from the Fed with a tamper proof seal that I have to cut open. The way it would probably work is you would have to go through your bank. For example if you read the fine print in your deposit agreement it states something like they don't have to give you all of your account balance in cash even if you ask for it. Mine mentions that withdrawls are subject to availability and safety. I'm sure if you ordered enough coins the bank would send the truck to your house but there would likely be a hefty fee. You also have to look at the liability and security issues. Do you have cameras and armed gaurds at your house? What if a Brinks employee hurt themselves on your property unloading the truck?
It may just be me, but I feel like a Brinks delivery to my home on a semi-regular basis may attract a bit of "negative" attention.
They require you to be a licensed financial institution to take deliveries over a certain dollar amount. I called them and asked how much it would cost to set up direct delivery.
Bingo! I think this has what's stopped MANY coin dealers from doing this exact same thing many years ago. Now, if you guys would be interested in opening a bank, maybe we could pool our resources in which case I might be able to pry $100 out of my savings to start the ball rolling?
My answer probably won't help you much if any, but here goes..back in 2006 I was advised to do a swap from one metal to another. Not knowing how to handle the actual physical part, the dealer took care for me, told me to just have everything sealed and accessible. When the pick-up came time to take place, two (2) armed guards and a huge huge truck came. Though I wad quite sure all was safe, I was a bit concerned that anyone in my small town might see or know. Armed and obvious, but at least the truck did not say brink or something. So maybe if the amount is right you can get a service like that. Good luck! Lucy
