What grade were the 1921 and 1928 in? Those two coins alone are usually worth half of what you sold the entire set for.

I LOVE your new penny and good numismatic decision. Buy what you love, sell what you don't and you'll never feel bad.......

I do like the idea of some here, who have sold some of their junk silver and pulled in a profit. Then hold on to the better quality stuff for later on. For those guys, they are already ahead of the game.

No More Coin Collecting for Me.....Now I Collect Food and Water

I just sold my entire collection, all silver that had no reasonable nuministic value went for 32+ dollars an ounce. The rest went for the nuministic dealers value. Everything except the tokens and other coins (not silver). I kept the bags and bags of loose coins for later this week to bring to the bank and cash in for face value.:hail:
My guess is the silver and gold will continue to climb in value for a bit longer before the entire economy of the US collapses and everything, gold, silver and the money I received for the collection is worthless. I have turned to the only thing that will be of value......religion. Hopefully I will have stored, grown and raised enough food by the time everything has gone south to hold me and my family for a short while. Can goods are much more practical to collect.:)

    Good Luck to all Collectors!!!!

The funny thing is that you're by no means alone in your apocalyptic view of things to come. Since the economic crisis of 2008, it seems I meet more and more people who share your pessimistic view of our country's future. Who knows, you might be right and we numismatists may one day find ourselves in possesion of a whole bunch of coins that aren't worth much more than their melt value. But I'm an eternal optimist so I'm going to continue to buy numismatically value-enhanced collectibles while my survivalist-minded friends collect a basement full of canned goods. Fortunately for myself, gun collecting is also one of my hobbies so if the world ends at least I've got the shooting irons to fall back on.

Silver is approaching what gold was in the mid 1960's ($35 per oz). On cheap raw stuff I have separated all the silver coins out and input them into spreadsheet to keep up with escalating bullion value and them price accordingly. Some can be lotted into ebay BIN or make offer lots (or just blown out at auction). A lotof it I will sell at shows from my table to avoid the sleazebay fees.

Many catalogs have become worthless (even the CDN cant keep up). So one has to calculate the premium over BV to input into the pricing formula. While I have taken some profits along the way I am taking my time
to get maximum value and believe it will go higher.

The present USA economic situation probably will not improve much until WW3. Our country is becoming more and more polarized betwen the haves (represented by the Rebublican Party) and the have nots while wasting Billions on land wars and foreign aid. It has become apparrent the only worthwhile foreign policy in these times is to militarize the southern border, be sure we can win the war at sea, build more ships, fighters, artillery, plus a space force. For enemies outside of the Americas, strategy should be focused on simply blasting them from the face of the Earth when push comes to shove.

Funny.....we share another collection......Guns and Ammo, which I have collected for years. I have a very large arsenal of firearms and reloading equipment to help me along protecting my collection of cans. All jokes aside.....I hope you are correct, although the book I read predicts otherwise. I figure at my age I won't be here long anyway and I can't bring anything with me so I'll just enjoy what I can while I can.

cool, a fellow gun enthusiast. Speaking of selling silver while it's high to buy other stuff while it's low reminds me why I've also recently added to my gun collection. Have you noticed how insanely low the prices have been on AR-15 magazines lately comapared to just a few years ago. Many firearms trading at lower than typical prices out there too right now. Hmm....Wait, note to self! I'm not buying anymore because the gunsafe is already full.

I share the full gun safes problem....but there's still closets and drawers. I also quit buying though and pass time reloading custom loads, tweeked for the ballistics of each weapon.

Back to the non-Mad Max portion of this thread, last Friday I sold 15 of my worst condition and duplicate Mercury dimes and a beat-up quarter at 21 times face value. Then I spent two hours looking through the bin of foreign coins which were all 25 cents each, or 15 cents each if you buy 100. I ended up buying 147 coins and still having a net profit of $10. So I have a lot more coins to enjoy and still made a little money. If you're in the hobby to enjoy it and not make money, I say trade that silver in and get what you really like.

The last prediction that I read online was for silver to hit $50 in March. I do not see $50 silver happening in March. It is possible for silver to pull back from current levels before it resumes its upward move.
