I bought this coin last week and finally got it today. It's a German 2 Mark, 1938 (Nazi Era), with Paul von Hindenburg's portrait on the back. And it's mostly silver hya: The outside edge is engraved with "The Common Good goes before the Interest of the Individual" Just thought I would share
Paul von Hindenburg was the 2nd (& last) President of Germany under the 1919 Weimar Constitution (1925-34). He was a monarchist who was seen as the Ersatz Kaiser (substitute emperor). He was the man who invited Hitler to assume power as Reichskanzler (Reich Chancellor),thus paving the way for the infamous 3rd Reich (1933-45). BjC,you're welcome. It pays to read, then that way one can become a learned person.History was my strongest subject at school. Aidan.
I have a pile of Third Reich coins somewhere, i like them because they speak historical volumes and they always make people stop and think twice. History's bad lessons should never be forgotten they should be learned from.
I thought that towards the end, Hinderburg wanted to stop Aldoph Hitler, but he was too sick and weak to affect any changes. Not that it matters much anymore.
