Just because many in the hobby want to Ba$tardiize the language used to describe coins doesn't make it right. In any field of science if you tried to give new definiotions to old terms you would be severely chastised by the science community. That is because if not all are using the same dictionary it becomes more difficult to understand what everyone is talking about. The same applies to numismatics. If I read a thread that says "hey, look at this awesome cud!" I am automatically going to look for something involving the rim. There are already terms that describe what is on the coin. They are die chips and the large one is a die break. If your intent in posting that link was to "educate" me all, you have shown me is that the precise language used to describe coins and coin errors is being diluted. Perhaps it is you that has something to learn.

Ok you know it alls can go ahead with this thread. I have said what I wanted to and I'm thru with it. The way I see it is you have your own opinions and I have mine. We are entitled to our own opinions since this is the good ole USA. I will keep on calling the filled in die breaks cuds and other folks can call their coins the way they want to with no harm done to any of us. surely some of you are not so lazy that it will hurt you to look farther than the rim of a coin to find a cud. I suppose that is why we have to have all of this modern junk on our cars today. before long we can just get in our car and say go to disney world and lay back and go to sleep and we are there.

All I am saying is there is correct terminology and there is incorrect terminology. You can choose to use the incorrect terminology but don't expect not to be corrected on it. It is not really a matter of opinion it the difference between someone that is a casual coin collector and someone that wants to learn the proper language to talk about numismatics, a numismatist.
