I won this off of eBay yesterday for 99 cents plus $4 shipping. I thought it was interesting because it is from
where I live, Rochester, NY. Written inside is a current balance of money from 1899 and the total balance after interest in 1923. Also inside the book is a small list of items that the person needed to purchase, such as gasoline ($2.00) and an oil change ($3.57). Here are some pics:

That's it. I hope you like it. I'm thinking of donating it to a Rochester museum. Though it may not be much, it is still an important and interesting piece of my local history. :)

$1100+ as of 1923, eh? "Yes, I'd like to withdraw it all -- in dimes and quarters. The newest, shiniest ones you have, please."

Those are always interesting especially when you find the ones that were actually used for a period of time and are from early dates.

If you're interested in things like bank books and cheque books, search through the thrift stores, like Goodwill. They usually have them for anywhere from 10 cents to a dollar.

So I contacted the local museum, the Rochester Museum and Science Center, last weekend. They informed me that they would get back to me as soon as a meeting was held (this past Monday) to see whether or not the book would fit into any of their collections. Hopefully I'll hear something soon...
