What Albums to Buy. . .

    Hey guys,

I just got another bank account opened up and now have free access to a coin counting machine! :thumb:

I'm looking to start doing a box of cents, nickels, and dimes a week. I've done probably $600 or so in boxes of cents prior to this, but will be new to nickels and dimes.

I already have my dansco's for memorial and wheat cents, and plan to buy albums for the nickels and dimes as well. My question is how often do you nickel and dime box searchers come across buffalo nickels and mercury dimes while searching?

I'm looking to put in an order for some new Dansco albums. I know I'm buying the Roosevelt dime and Jefferson nickel albums, but I'm curious if I'll be finding buffalo or mercury dimes at all regularly enough to warrant buying the albums right now. Even if it's one every other box or so I'd consider buying.

I appreciate the feedback, I plan to order them tonight! :smile

I would say that you'll virtually never find a mercury dime or bufflao nickel in a roll or in circulation. You will need to find them at a coin shop, auction, or estate sale. Good luck with your search.

That's about what I figured. I've been reading through the hundreds of pages of replies to the Roll Searchers thread and occasionally see a merc dime or buffalo nickel found. Was curious of guys' odds in terms of per box. I know a lot of guys keep track of their finds with excel.

Thanks though! I'll just order the Roosevelt and Jefferson albums for now, and probably just pick up a couple coin tubes for mercs or buffs that I might happen across.

I've searched alot of nickels and found a few Buffalo nickels. All of them had the dates worn off though. I have searched some dimes, but not a whole lot. Never found a Merc. But I have gotten them in change. Probably 3 of them in the last 2 or 3 years.

A Merc in BAD condition is the same price as a silver Roosie in BAD condition!

    Dark Side of the Moon.
    Led Zeppelin IV.
    Abbey Road.

    :)

To be slightly more serious, if I were buying albums for coins found from searching boxes, I'd probably just get a blank album (I'm definitely a Dansco fan). If you're buying coins by date, then spring for the albums for specific series as you see fit. But I doubt you'll see Buffalos or Mercs with any regularity at all.

In the last 30 years I've received exactly one Buffalo and zero Mercs in change -- and I have been known to search large quantities of nickels, at least.
