They are certainly interesting, and while your Grandfather isn't around to help with the details, you can certainly get various catalogs and online help to do some research yourself if you like.

See if there's a setting for white balance on your camera. If you set it to "tungsten" (ie, normal light bulb) you should be able to get rid of that yellow color from your shots.

The center medal in the shadowbox is the French Croix de Guerre with a bronze palm. This is a pretty significant award -- the equivalent of the Silver Star in the US.

 

The medal wasn't personally issued to dad. It was awarded to his outfit, the 82nd Airborne. I put the box together with a commemorative D-Day, Battle of the Bulge, and a repro CdG. Dad saw a bunch of action and it was just an addition to a wall of items he has put together in his family room. BTW, the medals are all hanging from an actual piece of parachute shroud line from WWII he brought back. Here is a picture of dad next to his WWII uniform.

The French Croix de Guerre is represented on the uniform by the fourragere on the left shoulder. The fourragere on the right shoulder represents the Military Order of William presented by the Dutch to the 82d Airborne.

 

Good eye,... The other one is the Belgium Fourragere for their action during the Bulge.
